  14. Users of File Viewer must accept this disclaimer of warranty:

  16. "File Viewer is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
  17. expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of
  18. merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no
  19. liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from
  20. the use of File Viewer."

  22. File Viewer is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
  23. the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
  24. please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
  25. essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer
  26. users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
  27. incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you
  28. find this program useful and find that you are using File Viewer and
  29. continue to use File Viewer after a reasonable trial period, you must
  30. make a registration payment of $9.95 to Maze Computer Communications.
  31. The $9.95 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  32. computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like a
  33. book. An example is that this software may be used by any number of
  34. people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another,
  35. so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one location
  36. while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
  37. different persons at the same time.

  39. Commercial users of File Viewer must register and pay for their copies
  40. of File Viewer within 30 days of first use or their license is
  41. withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting Maze
  42. Computer Communications.

  44. Anyone distributing File Viewer for any kind of remuneration must
  45. first contact Maze Computer Communications at the address below for
  46. authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted to
  47. distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
  48. shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering File
  49. Viewer immediately (However Maze Computer Communications must still be
  50. advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
  51. version of File Viewer).

  53. You are encouraged to pass a copy of File Viewer along to your friends
  54. for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they
  55. find that they can use it.

  58. on use and capabilities is included in the online help.

  85. Definition Of Shareware
  86. =======================

  88. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  89. buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
  90. are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
  91. some request registration while others require it, some specify a
  92. maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
  93. simple right to continue using the software to an updated program with
  94. printed manual.

  96. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
  97. the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  98. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  99. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of
  100. comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad
  101. ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The
  102. author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
  103. software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For
  104. example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
  105. disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  107. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
  108. find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
  109. commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
  110. easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead
  111. is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back
  112. guarantee - if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  117. Future Plans
  118. ============
  119. This version concludes development for version 1.x of File Viewer. All major
  120. items planned are already in place. Bug fixes and minor enhancements will
  121. still be added. The next serious incarnation will be version 2.0. Features will
  122. heavily depend on user's feedback.

  124. We do not intend to add display of Windows or Windows apps formats. The
  125. originators of those files will always make a much better job of displaying
  126. them. There will be no WinWord, Paintbrush or Excel file display. What we
  127. do consider is low-level display of files in various formats. For example PCX
  128. headers, BIFF records or RIFF chunks. We also do consider display of ZIP
  129. directories and NTFS/HPFS file attributes.

  131. Future plans for this program include the following items.  These are plans,
  132. They may get changed:  dropped if there is not enough interest - read
  133. registered users, or expanded according to user's feedback.  We reserve the
  134. right to change plans at our discretion without giving any reason.

  137. version is at this time source-level compatible with Windows 3.1 version but
  138. is compiled as native 32-bit WinNT application.  Some #ifdef magic was
  139. necessary to make this happen.  In future versions File View for Windows NT
  140. will support some NT specific features (long file names, NTFS gimmicks,
  141. Unicode etc.)
